Expert Advice > The Theatre Royal Haymarket

The Theatre Royal Haymarket is considered the jewel in the crown of the West End.
Established in 1720 it has built up a reputation of producing some of the finest pieces of theatre and musical theatre. It gained its Royal Patent in 1766 when the lease holder Samuel Foote attended a Royal Hunting party and ended up losing his leg. To make amends the Duke of York secured a patent from his brother, King George II!
Waiting for Godot is the theatre's current production with the dream team of Patrick Stewart and Ian Mckellen also known as the Mr X and Magneto from the X Men!
The Theatre Royal Haymarket Company has recently launched an Education and Learning programme for children and young people from 7 to 17 year olds. This sits alongside the Theatre's existing Masterclass which provides a professional vocational programme for 17 to 30 year olds.
We have been really busy and starting off the programme holding open auditions across the country with 100s of young hopefuls auditioning to cast two local boys at each venue for Waiting for Godot. We have come across a wealth of talent and now have a nationwide Theatre Company of young people and we want you to be involved!
Throughout the summer, we will be running a series of workshops for you to come along to. Either come along for a day workshop on anything from Audition techniques to Shakespeare or join us for a week and get involved in producing and performing in a production on a West End stage.
Or why not join our West End Drama School? The school will be held every Saturday from September throughout term time and will be run by the education team and guest West End theatre directors and actors. Or maybe you want to get your school involved? We offer a wide variety of workshops for KS1 - KS4 and sixth form students. They focus on various themes from storytelling, right through to the works of Beckett. All workshops can be delivered at your school or alternatively at the theatre. If you think your school would be interested in this then do let your teacher know!
